Carhartt WIP was born from the adaptation of Carhartt workwear to the European context. Founded in 1994 by Edwin Faeh, the project develops collections inspired by the archetypes of American workwear, engaging with the subcultures that have adopted and reinterpreted them.
It is precisely this exchange that defines the brand's identity. Workwear is not simply preserved in its original form, but transformed through new cultural contexts, from the skate scene to music and urban culture.
From its origins to the present
The history of Carhartt WIP is therefore a story of transformation. The robust and functional pieces from the Carhartt universe are reinterpreted for a European audience, while maintaining a connection with the origins of the brand.
From its first London store in 1997 to its current international presence, WIP has built its own cultural system, shaped also by skateboarding, music, collaborations and publications.
The result is contemporary workwear that retains functionality as a central element, while placing it within a broader urban wardrobe.
Carhartt WIP thus demonstrates how a garment originally created for work can take on new meanings when it comes into contact with communities, creativity and contemporary culture.
